Halfway to RN

I have completed semester 2 of nursing school, and I’m sitting at the halfway mark to getting my license as an R.N. Next year at this time, I’ll graduate : )

I feel so relieved and excited for the summer. This semester was busy, and much harder, and I feel disconnected from the world and you. I just sat and went through old voicemails that stacked up on my phone, and realized that I hadn’t returned some of those calls. I got sentimental this morning as I dropped the girls at school and watched them walk away….they look older now, even in the few short months of this 2nd semester and I miss them. They haven’t gone anywhere, but I’ve been trying to stay afloat.

I look at my house, which is in need of a very deep clean and massive organizing, it’s been neglected as well. Additionally, I look out over the water as I type and I see relaxation waiting for me too (my body and mind needs it), AND I see the sidewalk that says, you should be running along my path. Nursing school has taken a good  a huge portion of my life since January, but it’s not all bad….I am one step closer to becoming an amazing nurse.

Right now though, in my mind, I can only see the pictures of a perfect summer, which include: dates nights and weekends with Doug (once again), trips to the movie theater on Tuesday mornings with the girls, lunch dates with my mom, grandma’s and sisters while the cousins play (gosh, I miss my family), a trip on the Jolley Trolley, playtime at Busch Gardens as a family, a trip to see Winter the dolphin at the aquarium, a trip to the zoo, bike rides, the smell of great food cooking on the grill , exercise (I think I’ve put on too much weight this semester), a summer concert, library visits, playdates, a trip to the children’s museum, manicures and pedicures, cupcakes AND ice cream, festivals downtown, rainy movie days (maybe Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea), Sara’s 9th birthday party (what?!?!), reading on the dock, beach days, swimming with a dolphin (maybe a dolphin will approach our dock and become our summer time pet), a July 4th celebration, our summer family vacation and the list goes on…..

Am I dreaming? Is this real? My life as of yesterday was lived  rushed in triple time speed, where phone calls didn’t get returned, the word “no, I don’t have time” were the most used words in my vocabulary, endless weekends of studying was the norm and always having to decide on “what’s priority” was at the core of my thoughts. This has now come to an end. I can’t believe it. I get a break. And, I’m going to enjoy and embrace every last second of it.

I’ve already started enjoying the break. Yesterday I took my final exam, and was finished by 9:30 a.m. I joined Doug for a Cinco de Mayo, or should I say Cinco de Guruz party. Guruz Media celebrated their 5 year anniversary yesterday, and Doug made the staff a wonderful lunch, which consisted of steak, chicken and pork taco’s with cabbage, pickled onions, cilantro, sour cream, cheese and green onions along the side for topping. He also prepared a hot and mild salsa, homemade guacamole, a tomatillo salsa, black beans and rice and roasted corn. It was delicious. Congrats on 5 successful years, Guruz Media! After our little celebration, Doug and I walked downstairs to the restaurant bar that’s just below the office, for a celebratory drink.

Last night we celebrated not only Cinco de Mayo, but me finishing semester 2 of nursing, Doug getting his wife back, the children getting their mother back, and the house getting its keeper back. Harborita Cantina, a new Mexican eatery in town, opened their doors last night. So, we attended the grand opening and drank complimentary margarita’s with our friends and neighbors Dario, Lisa, Anthony and Amy. We even ran into the Dos Equis man, and forced him to say the words, “Stay thirsty my friends”. It was a great time. The food was fabulous, the restaurant was jam packed and the company was the best. It was the perfect way to celebrate the end of another semester.

Now, I’m officially freeeeeeee and I can’t wait to see you again!
